Im now recommending it to all my friends. It is obviously well researched with many prisoners giving their stories as well as local Indonesian newspaper quotes confirming everything that goes on from the rampant sex and drugs to the corruption.
This book left me with my mouth agape!! One person found this helpful. Kathryn bonella does a good job of painting keroobokan realist and frightening picture of what really goes on in a foreign prison. Money can buy you just about anything in Indonesia i Supposedly and honest account of what actually goes on behind the walls of the infamous Kerobokan Jail in Bali.
Its walls touch paradise; sparkling oceans, surf beaches and palm trees on one side, while on the other it’s kerobokkan dark, bizarre and truly frightening underworld of sex, drugs, violence and squalor. Much respect for the author for delving into dangerous situations to achieve great journalism. It should be in everyone’s carry-on bag.
Visitors used to have to pay to come in and prisoners would pay guards to do activities that should be free. Kerbokan life in Indonesia myself for the last eleven years and i know about the system and the strange ways the law can go over here.
